What is liposuction?

It is a technique to sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat deposits from the specific area of the body.

You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you have localized excess fat or if you desire contouring in any of the following areas:

Liposuction may sometime be used to treat a condition called gynocomastia, or male breast enlargement, which frequently occurs among both among teenage and adult males. It can enhance your appearance and your self confidence but it may not change your looks to match the ideal image in your mind. Liposuction should not be considered a substitute for overall weight loss ,nor is it an effective treatment for cellulite, a condition that gives the skin an uneven, dimpled appearance. Alternative t/m may be considered in some instances to improve this problem. Liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time, & it can also be done in conjunction with other aesthetic plastic surgery. The best candidates for the liposuction are of normal weight with firm elastic skin, but have pockets of excess fat in certain areas. You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable realistic in your expectation. Most important, having firm, elastic skin will result in better final contour.

What are the common areas for liposuction?

The common areas of liposuction are as following:

Alternative for redundant skin includes abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Breast lift (mastopexy), face lift, arms lift, and thigh lifts. If your problem is one of extra tissue, not just localized fat, let us know so we can start you in the right direction, sometime a combination approach is necessary. Most lipo suction surgery is done as an outpatient (you go home right after surgery) It is done in one of the private operating theaters. Large volume lipo suction surgery can involve significant fluid shifts & may need hospital monitoring for several days. Our clinic will give you specific instructions how to prepare for surgery including guidelines on eating, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins and certain medication. If you develop an infection an infection of any kind, especially a skin Infection your procedure will be post pond. Make certain to arrange some one to drive you home after your surgery. A snug compression garment worn after surgery helps reduce swelling . Wear loose fitting Clothing on the day of the surgery that will easily fit over the lipo suction sites.

Various types of anesthesia can be used for lipo suction . Together you and Dr Khaqan Jahangir will select the type of anesthesia that provides the most safe and Effective level of comfort for your surgery. If only a small amount of fat and a limited number of sites are involved, lipo suction can be performed under local anesthesia . However, if you prefer, IV sedation can keep you more relaxed during the procedure ,you will be awake but should feel minimal discomfort. Larger surgeries are best under G A.

The time required to perform lipo suction may vary considerably, depending on the size of the area ,the amount of the fate being removed, the type of anesthesia and technique used. An average case can take one to two hours, how ever the time varies considerably from thirty minutes to several hours. Small incisions through the skin permit Dr. Khaqan Jahangir to introduce the narrow metal tube ( L.S.CANNULA). This cannula is connected to a high suction machine . The metal tube is then manipulated under the skin breaking up the fate and suctioning it out. Some time additional incisions permit better access. If done under the local anesthesia ,you may fall some tugging , pulling and vibrations of this cannula Motion . You also may feel a stinging sensation as the cannula moves closer to muscle.

After your surgery a snug elastic dressing , girdle ,or body stocking must be worn Over the treated area to control swelling and bleeding ,the garment also help your skin To shrink to fit to your new contour. You may need wear this garment continually for two to three weak, then the day time for a few week more , There may also be one or Drainage tubes inserted under your skin for 1-3 days, the drain helps remove any fluid you will be given postoperative instruction for drain management and antibiotic.

You will even be heavier for a while from extra fluids. The suctioned areas will be swollen and bruised, and you may feel a burning sensation. The pain can be controlled With medication prescribed by Dr KHAQAN but you will still feel sore for a few days,

You may temporarily lose all feeling in the mentioned area, do not worry , it usually returns of this cannula.
